How do you know if you are shadowbanned on X?
Log out of X, search from:@yourhandle in the Latest tab, and see whether your recent posts are there. If they sit on your profile but not in search, you are search banned — the most common and most costly of the four filters. The other three show up in replies: missing from a thread is a ghost ban, buried at the bottom of one is deboosting, and missing from the search box dropdown is a suggestion ban.

Why accounts get shadowbanned
Almost every filter is applied automatically, to a pattern of behaviour rather than to one post. These are the patterns that trigger it.
Follow and unfollow churn
Following hundreds of accounts a day and unfollowing them again is the single most reliable way to get search banned. X reads it as growth automation whether or not you used a tool.
The same post, again and again
Reposting identical or near-identical text, especially across several accounts you control, trips the duplicate-content filter. Vary the wording and space the posts out.
A link in every post
Accounts that post an external link almost every time get filtered harder than accounts that mix links with native content. It is a ratio, not a ban on links.
Low-effort replies at scale
“Great post!”, emoji-only replies and templated comments under big accounts are the classic trigger for reply deboosting and ghost bans.
Hashtag stuffing
More than two or three hashtags per post reads as reach farming on X, which never rewarded hashtags the way Instagram did.
A burst of blocks, mutes or reports
Enough negative signals in a short window will filter an account automatically, before any human looks at it. One viral argument is sometimes enough.
Engagement bait
“Follow for follow”, “comment X and I'll DM you” and reply-to-enter giveaways are explicitly named in X's platform manipulation policy.
A brand new account moving fast
New accounts get a much tighter filter. Posting, following and replying at full speed in week one looks exactly like a bot warming up.
How to fix a Twitter shadowban
Most automatic filters clear on their own within 24 to 72 hours once the behaviour stops. In order:
Stop the behaviour that triggered it
Filters are applied to patterns, not posts. Whatever changed in the last few days — a follow spree, a reply campaign, a link-heavy run — stop it before anything else. Nothing below works while the pattern continues.
Delete the posts that are most likely to blame
Remove anything with stuffed hashtags, engagement bait, or a link you posted repeatedly. You are not hiding evidence; you are removing the content the automated filter is still scoring.
Go quiet for 24 to 48 hours
Do not post, reply, follow or unfollow. Most automatic filters are time-boxed and expire on their own, and continued activity keeps resetting the clock.
Come back at half speed
Post original content with no links for a few days, reply only where you have something real to add, and keep new follows under about 20 a day.
Re-run this test after 48 hours
Automatic filters usually clear within 24 to 72 hours. If the same check still fails after a week, it is probably a human review rather than an automatic filter.
Appeal only if it has lasted more than a week
Use X's help centre to file an appeal. Describe the drop in reach factually, name the checks that fail, and skip the accusations — the form is read by a support agent, not the algorithm.

X never confirms a shadowban, so nothing here is a confirmation. Every check compares what the public can see against what your profile says exists, and reports the gap. Where a signal is not available, the result says so instead of guessing.

What this tool will never claim
- That X confirmed anything. X does not, to anyone.
- A percentage “shadowban score”. There is no number to read, so a number would be theatre.
- That a protected, dormant or brand-new account is filtered — those are reported as untestable, because they are.
- That a suggestion-ban result is automatic when X will not serve that data. You get the manual check instead.

How do I know if I am shadowbanned on Twitter?
Search from:@yourhandle in the Latest tab while logged out of X. If your recent posts are missing while they are visible on your profile, you are search banned. That single test catches the most common and most damaging filter. This tool runs that check plus the reply-visibility checks automatically, and shows you the evidence for each one.
Is this Twitter shadowban test free?
Yes — three tests per day per visitor, with no sign-up, no password and no OAuth connection. The tool only reads what X already shows the public, which is why it never needs access to your account.
Does X admit that shadowbans exist?
X does not use the word shadowban, but it does document visibility filtering: posts and accounts can be made less visible in search, replies and recommendations without notification. Elon Musk described the policy as “freedom of speech, not freedom of reach”. The mechanisms this tool detects are that filtering, observed from the outside.
How long does a Twitter shadowban last?
Automatic filters typically clear in 24 to 72 hours once the behaviour that triggered them stops. Restrictions that came from a human review, or from repeated offences, can last one to two weeks. A filter that survives a week of clean activity usually needs an appeal.
What is the difference between a shadowban and a suspension?
A suspension is public and announced: you are locked out and told why. A shadowban is silent — your account works normally from the inside while your reach collapses from the outside. If you can still post and see your own content, you are not suspended.
What is reply deboosting or quality filter discrimination?
Deboosting does not hide a reply, it ranks it to the bottom of the thread, usually behind the “Show more replies” link. The reply is technically public and practically invisible. It is triggered by the quality signals on the reply itself — one-word answers, link drops, engagement bait — rather than by anything wrong with your account.
Can a shadowban checker be wrong?
Yes, and any tool that tells you otherwise is overselling. These checks compare what X shows the public against what your profile says exists; they cannot see X's internal flags. A dormant account, a protected account or an X outage can all produce a misleading result, which is why every check here reports the evidence it used and says plainly when it could not reach a conclusion.
Why did my reach drop if no check failed?
Visibility filtering is not the only thing that reduces reach. The “For You” ranking model can down-weight a topic, a format or an external link without any of these filters being applied, and reach also falls simply because a post did not earn early engagement. A clean test means you are not filtered; it does not guarantee distribution.
Does posting links get you shadowbanned on X?
A link on its own does not. A pattern does: accounts that post an external link in nearly every post see their reach fall further than accounts that mix links with native posts and replies. Keeping links to a minority of your posts, and putting the link in the post rather than the first reply, is the practical fix.
Does this tool work for X and for Twitter?
They are the same platform — Twitter was renamed X in 2023 — so yes. The checks run against x.com, and both x.com and twitter.com handles work in the input.
