Counted Bluesky’s way
300 graphemes, not 300 characters
Bluesky measures posts differently from every other network MicroPoster publishes to, and getting that wrong is how posts get rejected or cut.
300 graphemes, counted properly
Bluesky counts what a reader sees, so an emoji or a flag costs one character — not the eleven UTF-16 units your keyboard produced. MicroPoster counts the same way before deciding where a thread breaks.
The 3,000-byte second cap
The AT Protocol record also caps a post at 3,000 UTF-8 bytes. Heavy emoji or non-Latin scripts can hit it before 300 graphemes, and a post that would break it is split instead of failing.
Links cost every character
There is no link shortener on Bluesky, so a long URL that was free on X eats real budget here. That is accounted for when a post is threaded.
Threads become native chains
A long X post arrives as a proper Bluesky reply chain that reads like it was written there — not a clipped post with a link back to X.

Bluesky automation questions
Does Bluesky automation need my app password?
Not with MicroPoster. It connects through the AT Protocol OAuth flow, so you approve access on Bluesky itself and can revoke it there. You never generate or paste an app password, which is what most other tools still ask for.
Can I schedule posts on Bluesky?
Yes. Bluesky has no built-in scheduler, so MicroPoster holds the queue and publishes at the time you set — or at a random time inside a window, if you would rather not post on the hour every day.
How are long posts handled on Bluesky's 300-character limit?
They become a native reply chain. MicroPoster measures the text in graphemes, the way Bluesky does, and splits it on sentence boundaries so each post in the chain reads on its own.
Can I crosspost from Bluesky to X and Mastodon?
Yes, in any direction. Bluesky can be the network you write on, with X, Threads and Mastodon receiving the copy, or it can be a destination for posts written elsewhere.
Is automated posting allowed on Bluesky?
Publishing your own posts through an authorised app is normal use of the AT Protocol — the whole network is built around third-party clients. MicroPoster does not follow, like or reply to other people on your behalf.
