Threads character counterIs it a Threads bot?

Threads counts text in a way no other network does, and it is the detail that quietly breaks automated posting.
500 characters per post
Meta's documentation is explicit: text posts are limited to 500 characters. Anything longer becomes a chain of replies, each with its own 500-character budget.
Emoji are charged by the byte
The Threads API counts an emoji as its number of UTF-8 bytes, so a single 😀 spends four characters and a family emoji spends far more. Almost every generic counter gets this wrong and lets you go over; MicroPoster applies the documented rule before splitting.
Links cost every character
There is no shortening on Threads and no discount for a preview card, so a long URL that was free on X takes real space here.
Chains, not clipped posts
A long X thread arrives as a proper Threads conversation rather than a truncated post with a link back to where it came from.

Threads automation questions
Is this a Threads bot?
Not in the sense people usually mean. MicroPoster is an authorised app on Meta's official Threads API: it publishes your own posts to your own account, and you approve and revoke that access from Threads. It is not a script logging into your account, and it never follows, likes, replies to or messages other people for you.
Can Threads posts be automated at all?
Yes. Meta ships a public Threads API for exactly this — creating posts, replying and reading your own content — and MicroPoster uses it. Automation that goes through the API with your permission is supported behaviour; automation that drives the app in a browser is not.
What is the Threads character limit for automated posts?
500 characters, the same as posting by hand — and the API counts each emoji as its number of UTF-8 bytes. MicroPoster measures both before publishing, so a post is threaded rather than rejected.
Can I crosspost from Threads to X, Bluesky and Mastodon?
Yes, in any direction. Threads can be the network you write on with the others receiving the copy, or it can be a destination for posts written elsewhere.
How do long posts appear on Threads?
As a native chain: the first post carries the opening, and each following part is a reply to the one before it, split on sentence boundaries so every post reads on its own.
Can I keep a post off Threads?
Yes. Add #nocrosspost or #keephere to the post, or to any reply in its thread, and MicroPoster skips it without spending your quota.
Does it work with multiple Threads accounts?
