Threads shadowban test

Find out if Threads is hiding you. We search Threads for your own posts and your username the way a stranger would, and show you exactly what came back.

No login, no password. We only read what a logged-out visitor can see.

The short answer

How do you know if you're shadowbanned on Threads?

Threads never tells you directly. You notice it from the outside: your posts stop showing up when someone searches the exact words you wrote, your username stops coming up in people search, or your replies end up under Hidden replies while other people's are shown.

This test checks the first two for you from a logged-out view, confirms your profile and posts load for strangers, and walks you through the reply check by hand. It only reads public data, so it never asks for your password or a Threads login.

Meta does keep one official signal. In the Threads app, go to Settings, then Account, then Account status. If a post was removed or your content is not being recommended to new people, it is listed there. Check it next to this test.

The four limits

What a Threads shadowban looks like

People say shadowban for several different limits. They have different causes, so it helps to know which one you have.

Causes

Why Threads limits accounts

Threads follows Instagram's Recommendation Guidelines, and most limits are automatic. They react to patterns, not to a single post.

The same post, again and again

Posting identical or near-identical text, especially across several accounts, reads as spam. Change the wording and space your posts out.

Engagement bait

Posts that ask for likes, follows or a reply word ("comment YES", "follow for follow") are not eligible for recommendations. Ask real questions instead.

Follow and unfollow sprees

Following hundreds of people in a day and unfollowing them later is the classic growth hack that Meta's systems look for. A new account doing it gets limited fast.

Reposted, unoriginal content

Posts copied from other people without adding anything get less distribution. Screenshots of someone else's post with no comment are the usual example.

A wave of reports

Enough reports in a short time can limit an account automatically before a person reviews anything. One heated thread is sometimes enough.

Bursts that look automated

Dozens of replies in a few minutes, or the same reply under many posts, looks like a bot. Slow down, especially on a new account.

Recovery

How to fix a Threads shadowban

Most automatic limits lift within days once the behaviour behind them stops. In this order:

  1. Open Account status first

If a post broke a rule, Meta lists it there and lets you request a review. A removed post that you win on review stops counting against you.

  2. Stop whatever changed

Pause any automation, mass following or repeated posting. Think about what you did differently in the week before your reach dropped.

  3. Delete or rewrite the posts that caused it

Engagement bait, repeated links and copied content are the usual suspects. Removing them takes the pattern away.

  4. Post normally for a week

Write your own posts and leave real replies. Do not try to post your way out of it with volume.

  5. Run this test again

Give it seven days, then re-test. If search still misses you and Account status shows nothing, use the appeal option in the app.

Methodology

How this Threads shadowban checker works

Meta never confirms a shadowban, so nothing here is a confirmation. Each check compares what a stranger can find with what you actually posted, and says so when it cannot tell.

What each check does and how far to trust it
CheckWhat we actually doHow far to trust it
Profile visibilityWe load your profile as a logged-out visitor would see it.High. Either the profile loads or it does not.
Posts on your profileWe read the first page of posts a logged-out visitor sees on your profile.High. An empty list on an active account is a clear signal.
Search visibilityWe take the opening words of up to two recent posts that are more than two hours old and search Threads for them.Medium. Threads ranks results, so we only call it restricted when your own words bring up other people and never you.
Profile searchWe search your exact username in Threads people search.Medium. Threads search is slow to update after a username change.
Reply visibilityWe give you the steps to check it from a second account.Manual. Logged-out visitors only see a few replies per post, so no tool can read this reliably.

Don't keep all your reach in one app

A Threads limit can take weeks to lift, and Meta will not tell you when it does. MicroPoster publishes each post natively to Threads, X, Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn, so one filter costs you part of your audience instead of all of it. Paid plans also re-check your connected Threads, X and Bluesky accounts every month and flag any limit in your monthly report email.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does Threads shadowban accounts?

Meta does not use the word, but in practice yes. Threads can stop recommending your posts to people who do not follow you, leave you out of search, and fold your replies under Hidden replies. Meta describes the first one as content that is not eligible for recommendations, and it shows up in Account status.

How long does a Threads shadowban last?

Most automatic limits lift within a few days to two weeks once the behaviour that caused them stops. A limit tied to a post Meta removed lasts until a review overturns the decision or the violation stops counting against you.

Can I check a Threads shadowban without logging in?

Yes. That is the whole point of this test. It reads Threads the way a logged-out visitor does, because that is the view a shadowban changes. You only need the username.

Why do I have to check my replies myself?

Threads only shows a handful of top replies to logged-out visitors, so an outside tool cannot tell a hidden reply from one that simply was not in the top few. Checking from a second account that does not follow you is the only reliable way.

Is a Threads shadowban linked to my Instagram account?

Threads and Instagram share one account system, so a suspension on Instagram also takes your Threads profile down. Recommendation limits are usually applied per app, which is why you can be limited on Threads and fine on Instagram. Account status in each app shows its own limits.

Is this Threads shadowban checker free?

Yes. You get three checks a day with no account and no card. Results are cached for 30 minutes, so re-opening your own result does not use a check.

MicroPoster is not affiliated with Meta or Threads. Every result is an observation from public data, not a confirmation from Meta. Last reviewed on October 9, 2026.
